Outreach
Outreach Mission Statement This group has been brought together to help broaden the knowledge of and the influence of the Holly Lake Church in our community. To accomplish this, we hope to be able to ignite the entire congregation to become more aware of opportunities to teach our community about Christ, but, more importantly, to acquire an excitement about sharing our blessings, both material and spiritual. With God’s help, and over a period of time, we plan to make Holly Lake Church the place that will come to mind first when there is a need in our community, and we plan to help each member of the congregation find his own personal place in this effort. What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. - James 2:14-17 Some of the ways we help others: In keeping with Christian obligations to our fellow man, the Holly Lake Church of Christ promotes and supports many activities that benefit our community and individuals. Provide one-on-one Bible Studies using Bible, video, cassettes to teach those who are seeking to know about God. Provide Bible Study correspondence courses by mail to those who are seeking Bible information. Caring for others "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." - James 1:27 Provide tuition paid scholarships to Camp Deer Run each summer for the youth of our community, where they learn about life skills and God. Sponsor Christmas for the East Texas Children’s Home by providing Christmas gifts to the children, house parents and family. Provide partial support to several Children’s Homes (Benevolence). Provide support to Church of Christ sponsored Disaster Relief organizations. Provide assistance to those who have suffered tragedies or experiences that place them in significant need (home fires, death, divorce, sickness, unemployment, etc. – Benevolence). Provide Holiday Food Baskets (Thanksgiving and Christmas) to the community needy (Benevolence). Year-round food pantry sharing. Conduct special programs and events during the year that tell the community we care about them. Fourth of July Patriotic Program and cookout. College scholarship for a graduating senior in our community each year. We want the community to know we are a sharing, loving group of people who care about them, want to help them in time of need, and invite them to join us in this service to God. We know that “mankind is a continuing work”. We all have problems, but we can all overcome with God’s help and our sharing. Some of the organizations that we support:
