Missions
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Colossians 4:2-3 Missionaries Supported by Holly Lake: The mission efforts engaged in by Holly Lake varied. We presently provide partial support for Bartollo Herasme in the Dominican Republic and Royce Sartain in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. Royce is preaching and teaching World Wide using the internet. The work of these dedicated missionaries is a vital part of our church. In addition to the two missionaries listed above we support Camp Deer Run. Camp Deer Run is a Christian Youth Camp located in East Texas. Camp Deer Run is devoted to providing young people with a place where they can have fun learning about God and building Christian relationships. Camp Deer Run provides refuge from the world for over 1200 campers each summer. The Lord has continued to bless the Holly Lake mission effort, for which we are thankful. The congregation works with some great mission families who truly love the Lord. We are thankful that the Lord allows us to work with these missionaries. Internet Missions Sharing Resources over Internet Who is Holly Lake Church of Christ? Holly Lake Church of Christ has about 140 members. About 70 percent are retired and live in Holly Lake Ranch, a community of about 2000 households. Holly Lake Ranch is about 10 miles north of Hawkins, Texas. The church building is located about 7 miles north of Hawkins, on highway FM 2869. Holly Lake is concerned about the condition of our nation. We have a responsibility to our nation and community, as God's servants, to inform them that God loves them and God is also concerned about the immorality in our nation. What we teach? We want to restore in our community and the world the original New Testament church that we read of in Acts and the New Testament. We have the same love for each other, and for the lost. We strive to be the church that Christ built and established and for which He died. And that is why we wear His name. The "Church of Christ" is a descriptive term indicating that the church belongs to Christ. In order to accomplish these things our teachings are based on God's Word. We teach that nothing is required of people as acts of faith except that which is evident in the scriptures. We emphasize that going back to the Bible does not mean the establishment of another denomination, but rather a return to the original church that was established in the first century. We are enthusiastic about this approach. With the Bible as our only guide we seek to find what the original church was like and restore it exactly. We do not see this as arrogance, but the very opposite. We are saying that we do not have the right to ask for men's allegiance to a human organization - we are only asking men to follow God's specifications for His church. We believe that to subscribe to any creed other than the New Testament, to refuse to obey any New Testament command or to follow any practice not sustained by the New Testament is to add to or take away from the teachings of God. And both additions and subtractions are condemned in the Bible (Galatians 1:6-9; Revelation 22:18, 19). How Holly Lake can Help? We believe that there is a lot of technology that can be used to help us make others aware of God. We have, at Holly Lake, the technology installed (Polycom videoconferencing view station) that will allow us to teach one-on-one Bible classes, group Bible classes, workshops, sermons, and complete worship services. We have a number of men who have taught classes for many years. Most are retired. These resources can be made available to any location within the U. S. that can obtain a 1.5 mbs internet connection. There may be some locations that may be unable to obtain such an internet connection. We are looking for a congregation that can partner with us to use these resources. Our goal is to assist other congregations in their outreach and to strength their membership with sound teachings. This will assist them in fulfilling the purpose that God has for them. We know that some congregations are not large enough to support a full time minister. Videoconferencing Technology We are using the Polycom View Stations. These units are about 5 years old and as a result are less expensive than the newer technology. There is one view station required at each location. The view stations have a microphone and video camera that can be moved to view the current speaker in the group. The view station connects to the internet using a fixed IP address and requires a minimum of 512Kbs of upload speed (1 Mbs is preferred). With todays technology these requirements can be obtained in most locations using various connection methods. The view stations appear to the internet as video servers.
