The beauty of Holly Lake

Who is Holly Lake Church of Christ?

Holly Lake Church of Christ has about 140 members. About 70 percent are retired and live in Holly Lake Ranch, a community of about 2000 households. Holly Lake Ranch is about 10 miles north of Hawkins, Texas. The church building is located about 7 miles north of Hawkins, on highway FM 2869.

Holly Lake is concerned about the condition of our nation. We have a responsibility to our nation and community, as God's servants, to inform them that God loves them and God is also concerned about the immorality in our nation.

What we teach?

We want to restore in our community and the world the original New Testament church that we read of in Acts and the New Testament. We have the same love for each other, and for the lost. We strive to be the church that Christ built and established and for which He died. And that is why we wear His name. The "Church of Christ" is a descriptive term indicating that the church belongs to Christ.

In order to accomplish these things our teachings are based on God's Word. We teach that nothing is required of people as acts of faith except that which is evident in the scriptures. We emphasize that going back to the Bible does not mean the establishment of another denomination, but rather a return to the original church that was established in the first century. We are enthusiastic about this approach. With the Bible as our only guide we seek to find what the original church was like and restore it exactly. We do not see this as arrogance, but the very opposite. We are saying that we do not have the right to ask for men's allegiance to a human organization - we are only asking men to follow God's specifications for His church.

We believe that to subscribe to any creed other than the New Testament, to refuse to obey any New Testament command or to follow any practice not sustained by the New Testament is to add to or take away from the teachings of God. And both additions and subtractions are condemned in the Bible (Galatians 1:6-9; Revelation 22:18, 19).

History of the Holly Lake Congregation

The Holly Lake Church of Christ began meeting in August 1973 soon after the Holly Lake Ranch development had started. The first meeting place was in the mobile home section of Holly Lake Ranch. Many of the first members were part-timers, in that they were from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area and came to the ranch for the weekends.

In 1979 land was purchased on FM 2869 about 4 miles south of Holly Lake Ranch. A small building was constructed in 1980 to accommodate the church growth. This is now the property on which current facilities are located. With growth continuing, an auditorium addition was built in 1987 that handles approximately 100 people and the existing building was converted to classrooms.

By 1998, it was apparent that more facilities were going to be needed. Plans were made to add onto the current facilities with another auditorium addition, office and classrooms, and converting the older auditorium into a fellowship hall with modern kitchen facilities. This project was started and completed in 1999. The new auditorium comfortably handles 250 people and can be expanded to accommodate more than 300.

The Lord’s armies continue to grow and we look forward to whatever plans He has for this church. Come join us and grow with us!
